THE FOLLY BOAT
So what is a Folly Boat you say to yourself ?
It is the only "billboard" used regularly by the locals of Folly Beach to render good tidings, general announcements, perhaps an artistic mood
for the day, a birthday, marriage, or even tributes to those who have passed on. The Folly Boat represents a dynamic very unique to our
community and a delight to those who pass by and wonder "What Was That !! ? "
And where is this boat and how did it get there?
Our Folly Boat is located on the very southern edge of the marsh as you approach Folly just beyond the old toll booth building. It landed itself
there in 1989 during Hurricane Hugo, staked it's claim, and continues to preside over the entry to our lovely island. The Folly Boat has been
a well known Folly tradition for local "graffitti" ever since.
